This 650 acre park on the northern fringe of Nottingham has an incredible variety of different wildlife habitats.
From Mill Lakes, teeming with water birds, to meadows full of wildflowers, from ancient oak woodland to a reclaimed pit tip, Bestwood has a landscape which reflects the varied history of Nottinghamshire itself
The Winding Engine House, an imposing piece of industrial archaeology, is a memorial to the coal mining industry once so important to our economy. The building is currently being restored by Nottinghamshire County Council, with funding support from The Heritage Lottery Fund, The Greater Nottingham Partnership and the Building Better Communities initiative. Work should finish in autumn 2009.
