Nottingham City Centre

Nottingham City Centre is the central area of Nottingham, and the Greater Nottingham conurbation as a whole. The area has seen a great deal of investment and redevelopment in recent years and is consistently rated amongst the top five shopping districts in the United Kingdom (outside of London).  It is where the city's major railway station, Council House and main shopping centres are located. Nottingham Express Transit trams run through the area, terminating at Station Street.

The undisputed central feature of the city centre is the Old Market Square, right at the heart of the city. This is undergone a major redevelopment programme which was completed in March 2007. Most of the main shopping streets are based around the square which is dominated by The Council House, whose landmark dome can be seen for miles around. Much of the ground floor of the Council House is taken up by the Exchange Arcade, a shopping centre of boutique stores.

A thriving bohemian quarter of the city known as Hockley has arisen in recent years, situated close to the Lace Market area.

Radio Nottingham's Big Night Out

Wednesday 3rd December 2008

"BBC Radio Nottingham's Big Night Out is back on Wednesday 3rd December!

The Big Night Out was born last year when breakfast show presenter Andy Whittaker wanted to change the image some people have of the city at night. It's about celebrating the range of activities the city has to offer after dark and many of the restaurants and venues come together to offer special deals to entice people to come.

There have been 2 previous events, the first last November and then a summer version in August - which drew over 2000 people to the Market Square to take part in the official photo! People came from all over Nottinghamshire and some hadn't been out in the city at night for years. BBC Radio Nottingham's Big Night Out is supported by the Nottingham Leisure Partnership and Nottingham City Council. In fact, the Leisure Partnership is now taking the concept one stage further with a version of Big Night Out on the First Wednesday of every month. You can hear more about the Big Night Out on BBC Radio Nottingham online, on 103.FM or on digital radio"

Opening Ceremony

The Big Night Out is being held alongside Nottingham Leisure Partnership's First Wednesday - 2 events, 1 great night out! Join BBC Radio Nottingham's Andy Whittaker and many of the other presenters in the Old Market Square from 6.30pm to launch the night and take part in the official Big Night Out photo.
