Richard Herrod Playing Fields

The Richard Herrod Centre is a modern facility situated in Carlton. It boasts a 6 rink indoor bowls green and active bowling club suitable for all abilities and ages  It also has a wide range of live entertainment in the main bar area, as well as a full sized snooker table. There is ample free parking and very good access for the disabled.

In 2001 a purpose built function suite was added to the Richard Herrod Centre. The Millennium Suite offers a fantastic venue for civil weddings, parties and conferences. In addition there are 2 further rooms that can also be hired for meetings, groups or activities

A free family fun weekend with lots to see and do.

Saturday see judging of the Borough’s largest horticultural show, which this year has over 100 classes, including special children's classes.  The Horticultural Show Schedule is available from the Show Secretary (0115) 8471820 at Gedling Borough Leisure Centres.

Sunday sees over 70 Classic Cars and Motorbikes proudly displayed with trophies being presented by the Cllr Richard Goodwin, the Mayor of Gedling at approximately 4.00pm.

There will be central arena entertainment featuring Polly & Jolly’s exploding taxi for the younger visitors on Sunday and a variety of taster sports sessions throughout the weekend.

We have the Army Careers unit with their Climbing Wall, British Cycling will be challenging cyclists of all levels and ages on their cycling skills and the Tennis Federation will be hosting sessions to test your tennis abilities.
For those less sporty, we have the Gedling Play Forum providing tabletop activities, with a variety of arts and crafts for all ages and abilities.  There will also be face painting and circus skills.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Spitfire fly past is also scheduled, along with Sunday afternoon’s Fun Dog Show with classes ranging from Best Rescue Dog to Wettest Nose.

  • Most Adorable Mongrel - 2.00pm
  • Most Appealing Eyes - 2.15pm
  • Prettiest Bitch - 3.30pm
  • Wettest Nose - 3.45pm
  • Best Rescue Dog - 4.00pm
  • Canine Fancy Dress - 4.15pm
There will also be street entertainers, sideshows, a childrens’ fun fair, food & drink court, craft and charity stalls.
Entertainment for all the family.  

Due to limited on site parking, additional car parking is available at Carlton Forum, Coningswath Road.
